After struggling for years to get pregnant, my now ex-husband and I were thrilled to find ourselves finally pregnant with our second child. Unlike the pregnancies I had lost, this one was easy. All of that changed one day in September 2010. I was just 23 weeks and 3 days pregnant when my cervix gave out. Over the next 6 days I was the most critical patient in Labor and Delivery. Finally my body could not hold on any longer and I gave birth to our son, Sam. I was just 24 weeks and 2 days into my pregnancy at the time.
Sam entered this world way too small (just 1 pound 12 ounces) and way to early – but don’t tell him that! He has been a force to be reckoned with from day one. Now, Sam is a healthy and thriving toddler with very little to show for his micro-preemie status. It is with pride that I have named him the Anti-Preemie.
As for me, Sam turned my world upside down. I went from being a career focused individual to a work-from-home mom. My kids are my pride and joy – but don’t get me wrong – it is not all craft projects and kid perfection at my house. Far from it.
I use this blog as a place to tell the story of Sam’s amazing progress, the impacts on his big sister, and to generally explore the perils of parenting.
